“Emily’s performance in our village hall was a delightful intimate experience for all of us who were there. Songs from the heart – can’t get better than that! We are already planning to entice her back. Jody’s warmup was first class – he is an excellent guitarist and singer. An evening to remember.” (Tony Haupt, Thatchcombe B&B, Letcombe Bassett, Oxfordshire)
Emily is following in the very big footsteps of Steve Knightley (from folk icons Show of Hands) who in 2014 came up with the concept of the ‘Grow Your Own Gig’ series.
Steve asked his fans living in rural or remote areas of the UK if any of them wanted to see him play in their local village hall and would be willing to put on a gig. He had over 500 enquiries and played over 75 gigs, mostly organised by individuals who had never put on a gig in their life but wanted to support live music and their local community.
These Steve Knightley fans booked their local village hall, printed and put up posters, advertised the gig and sold tickets at the door. After the gig Steve shared the profits with his team and the show organiser.
